How You Were Freed From Sin

What gave power to sin?

“…the strength of sin is the law.”
I Corinthians 15:56

How is sin imputed?
“For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.”
Romans 5:13

What was the problem with the law?
“But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire… And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.”
Romans 7:‭8-11

How did Jesus free us from sin?
“having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”
Colossians 2:14

What happens when there is no law?
“…for where there is no law there is no transgression.”
Romans 4:15

Does God remember sin in the new covenant?
“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
Hebrews 8:12

If the Son sets you free, you are extremely, exceedingly, tremendously, immensely, decidedly, remarkably free!

The Faith OF Jesus

Ask yourself. Do you think your faith would be stronger if you had the faith of Jesus instead of your own? If so, there’s good news!

The Bible says you died with Christ and it is no longer you who live but Christ who lives in you. Therefore the faith you exercise and operate in is not your own but the faith OF Jesus.

The NKJV’s translation would lead you to think it’s about you and YOUR faith IN Christ.

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith IN the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 NKJV

But looking at the King James and the Young’s Literal Translation and you’ll see this in a whole new light.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith OF the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 KJV

“with Christ I have been crucified, and live no more do I, and Christ doth live in me; and that which I now live in the flesh–in the faith I live OF the Son of God, who did love me and did give himself for me;” Galatians 2:20 YLT98

Check out this verse too;

“knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith IN Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith IN Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. Galatians 2:16 NKJV

But it wasn’t YOUR faith in Christ that justified you. It was HIS faith that justified you.

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith OF Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith OF Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” Galatians 2:16 KJV

“having known also that a man is not declared righteous by works of law, if not through the faith OF Jesus Christ, also we in Christ Jesus did believe, that we might be declared righteous by the faith OF Christ, and not by works of law, wherefore declared righteous by works of law shall be no flesh.” Galatians 2:16 YLT98

So if you’re struggling with whether the faith you have is sufficient. The answer is YES! Believe and know that HIS faith IS your faith. HE is the author and finisher of your faith. Don’t just have faith IN Jesus, exercise the faith OF Jesus!

Never Hunger, Never Thirst

Jesus said “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall NEVER hunger, and he who believes in Me shall NEVER thirst.

John 6:35

All you need is one bite, one drink. Look within and realize He has given you “ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness” 2 Peter 1:3. There is no amount of “doing” that will bring into your life what God has already freely given.

He told the woman at the well “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,  but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will NEVER thirst.”

Why won’t you ever thirst again? Because “the water that I shall give him will become IN HIM a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:13‭-‬14

There’s no need to be continuously drawing water from a well when you already have His living water SPRINGING UP from a FOUNTAIN already WITHIN YOU! He doesn’t even make you work for it. No more drawing from a well with a bucket. It’s an ever springing fountain! NEVER HUNGER, NEVER THIRST! Look within and know He is always with you. Only believe.

A Cain and Abel; The Lesser Known Story

We’re all familiar with Cain and Abel. At least the part where Cain kills Abel. But there is another short story about them prior to that incident that doesn’t get much attention and that’s probably because we don’t really understand why it happened the way it did. It has to do with the offerings the brothers brought the Lord.

Have you ever wondered why Abel’s gift was respected and Cain’s wasn’t? The bible doesn’t really say. The new testament says Cain’s works were evil and Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice through which he obtained witness that he was righteous. That’s about all we know, but what does that even mean?

“Abel was a keeper of sheep and Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry and his countenance fell.” Genesis 4:2-5

Now it comes as no surprise that God was obviously distracted and gazed upon this perfect firstborn lamb that was offered to Him. Sound familiar? I imagine He was daydreaming. But no offense Cain.

They both brought offerings of the fruit of their labor, so why respect one and not the other?

When we give a gift to someone out of love, we don’t expect anything back in return. We are not giving to gain favor with them or get something from them. Acceptance of the gift is appreciated but not required. We simply give because we love or care.

What happens when we don’t give out of love? We give to gain respect, recognition, love, acceptance, attention, favor, or to please. When we receive none of that in return, we become hurt, angry, sad, jealous, etc.

“So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you DO well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not DO well, sin lies at the door.”

So much of our time is spent TRYING to please God. DOING things to be accepted and loved and blessed by Him. That does NOT get God’s attention. Why? Because you’ve always had His attention. You have always had His love and acceptance. You have always had His favor and He’s always been pleased to call you His own.

Cain is like the prodigal son’s brother? He was angry and told his father “many years I have been SERVING you; I NEVER TRANSGRESSED your commandments, and YET YOU NEVER GAVE ME…”

What did the father tell him? “Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours!”

The root of Cain’s problem was not his offering. It wasn’t even his sin. His sin was only the result of wrong believing. He thought he could gain something from God that he already had, righteousness.

We too, need to rest in knowing He already loves and accepts you and there’s nothing you can do to earn that or change that.

White and Gold Dress? Try This Trick!

image

I thought this dress drama was dumb (still do). Then it was fascinating. Then it freaked me out.

After examining this dress for an amount of time I’m embarrassed to disclose, I now see its true colors. Originally, all I could see was white and gold. I would have said that you had to get your eyes checked if you saw anything different. I thought the dress was actually blue and black but the picture’s colors had been changed for it to look white and gold. Who knows?

I tried to look at it in different angles. White and gold. Under different light. White and gold. Even tried to edit it to manipulate the colors. White and gold. Anyone who sees blue and black needs an eye exam, seriously.

Then, I tried something that would change the way I see this dress forever. Once you see it blue and black, you cannot unsee it! Try it for yourself.

Cover the picture with your hand. Slowly undress the picture starting from the left side until all you can see is the dress from the dark shadow line under her left shoulder. You should only see the darkest part of the dress on the left. Blur your eyes, squint if you have to and try to see blue and black. Once you do, slowly reveal the rest of the dress going right. You should see a blue and black dress now.

What the…? Playing tricks on you, huh? I can now see it both ways. If I stop looking at it and come back to it, I can see white and gold, but it’s hard to unsee blue and black once you have.

How to Avoid Annoying Your Friends on Facebook

image

Everyone has them! Those 4 or 5 friends (I’m being nice) who’s Facebook status you just skip over because you already know what it will say, or at least you can bet money on what it is and the odds are forever in your favor. Don’t get me wrong, most of us are guilty of many of these nuisances, but making virtual soup slurping a frequent occurrence is what makes people want to go “accidentally” knock the spoon out of your hand. I love slurping my soup by the way, but we’re not talking about me. Here’s a few tips on how to avoid annoying your friends (meaning me).

Dear Snickers

image

Dear Snickers,

You are my favorite candy bar. I love you to pieces. What makes you or any other snack worthy of return visits by any consumer is consistency. We want the same deliciousness in every bite and in every package, and we trust that when we sink our teeth into you, our taste buds remember why we came back to you. In my case, the perfect blend of nougat topped with caramel and peanuts, covered in smooth milk chocolate. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Read the rest of this entry »
